Genioglossus Advancement

This is a second-line procedure that is used occasionally in certain patients with a small receding chin (microgenia/retrognathia) to open the airway and treat severe obstructive sleep apnea.  Most patients have previously undergone nasal and/or oral surgeries before this procedure is contemplated.  Dr. Jerome Vener and Dr. Alen Cohen in Los Angeles perform genioglossus advancement in select patients that cannot tolerate CPAP, have shown limited improvement with other surgical procedures and have a small receding chin.
