Minimally Invasive Image-guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
This is an outpatient procedure where no cuts are made on the face and the entire procedure is performed with the aid of endoscopes inserted through the nose to widen the various sinus drainage ostia and remove any disease within the sinuses to help them ventilate with air as it normally should. To perform this unique procedure a special dedicated preoperative planning CT is performed that acts as a roadmap during surgery; it confirms problematic areas that require attention and also functions to keep the surgeons away from danger areas as they are working millimeters from the eyes and bottom of the brain. If preoperatively it is also noticed that part of the problem is a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates causing nasal obstruction, then a septoplasty is performed to fix the deviation and submucous resection of the inferior turbinates is performed to shrink the turbinates so you can breathe much better after surgery. Dr. Alen Cohen and Dr. Jerome Vener, practicing in Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks, are experts at performing minimally invasive image-guided endoscopic sinus surgery and routinely perform hundreds of these procedures annually with excellent results. Patients often are amazed how little pain and discomfort there is following the procedure and how much their congestion and sinus headaches improve following the procedure.
