The Advantages of Botox in West Hills

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

When you reach a certain age, you might discover wrinkles overtaking your face. This can be disconcerting, as you have always viewed yourself as young and vibrant. But even if you feel young, your face could tell a different story. This is why you have to start considering treatments that could restore and preserve your youthful appearance. While many people go for the full face lift, there are plenty of advantages to sticking with a simple treatment of Botox in West Hills.

First, Botox in West Hills is much more affordable. In fact, it is a fraction of the price of a face lift. This alone can be enough of a reason for many people, and it should be. Botox is designed to be an easy treatment to have, and price is a big factor in this.

Second, the recovery time is much less, and so are the side effects. A face lift is a big treatment to have, considering the procedure that it involves – the incision of the skin and adjusting of facial muscles, etc. Instead, Botox in West Hills consists of a series of injections in strategic areas of your face. This allows you to have minimal side effects – like some bruising, instead of the bandages and pain that comes with face lifts. This means you can return to your normal activities much more quickly.

With Botox, you are able to restore new life to your face without going through a lot of the problems associated with plastic surgery. Consider having Botox done when you are looking to improve your appearance.

Thyroid Surgery in Los Angeles

Friday, June 17th, 2011

The thyroid gland is integral to the body’s metabolism and affects a person’s energy level. This small gland found in the neck is vital to a person’s overall health and well-bring.  When problems arise and thyroid surgery is necessary, it is important to find an experienced Head and Neck Surgeon who understands the sensitive nature of thyroid surgery.thyroid surgery in Los Angeles

Patients seeking thyroid surgery in Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks can turn to Dr. Alen Cohen, Director of the Minimally Invasive Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Program at West Hills Medical Center, and one of the surgeons at C/V ENT Surgical Group.  Dr. Cohen specializes in treating diseases of the head and neck through minimally invasive procedures.

The thyroid gland is located in the neck and is attached to the trachea. Surrounding it are the parathyroid glands that regulate the body’s calcium, and recurrent laryngeal nerves that control the vocal cords. With such critical structures surrounding the thyroid, surgery must be precise and done by an excellent and experienced surgeon.  You should always know your surgeon and confirm that he/she performs more than 50 of these operations annually.

Minimally Invasive Thyroid Surgery at Los Angeles-based C/V ENT Surgical Group is performed with a 1.5 inch incision in most cases. Experienced surgeons like Dr. Cohen can perform a hemithyroidectomy (removal of half of the thyroid gland) or total thyroidectomy through this small incision.

Thyroid surgery is necessary when growths on the thyroid gland are suspected of being malignant or are large and pressing on critical structures. Nodules and cysts on the gland are not uncommon, but they should be monitored by a qualified physician for any changes that could be signs of cancer.

Thyroid surgery is only performed after extensive tests to determine the nature of the growth on the thyroid.  If it is suspicious, a hemithyroidectomy may be performed so a doctor can further examine the nodule for malignancy. In rare cases where the mass is determined to be malignant, a total thyroidectomy with or without a central neck dissection is performed to remove the diseased gland. Thanks to procedures like minimally invasive thyroid surgery preformed by experienced surgeons like Dr. Cohen, thyroid cancer has a more than 90% cure rate.

Patients requiring thyroid surgery in Los Angeles can contact the C/V ENT Surgical Group for more information or to schedule a consultation.

ZERONA LASER ARRIVES AT C/V!

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

C/V ENT Surgical Group announces the arrival of the ZERONA®, the only non-invasive, body slimming, low-level laser treatment, to their practice, making them one of the first and only physicians to offer the ZERONA™ in the West San Fernando Valley area.  During clinical trials, the ZERONA® has been scientifically proven to result in an average of 3.6 inches lost from patients’ waist, hips and thighs. Unlike invasive weight loss surgery, ZERONA® is a revolutionary method that is applied externally without the dangers associated with surgery or other non-invasive devices which rely on heating the tissue.  The new technology has been proven to reduce inches from target areas such as the tummy, back, hips, thighs, buttocks, chin, neck and arms; contour and reshape the body; and tighten and tone loose skin.

The introduction of ZERONA® to C/V ENT Surgical Group will provide those seeking a safe alternative to surgery with a body contouring program that causes no bruising, scarring and discomfort.   The simple procedure consists of six 40-minute treatments over a two-week period.

Dr. Cohen says, “Our patients have been pleased with the results from ZERONA® treatments and because there are no needles, no incisions and no recovery time involved, they can continue with their daily activities immediately after each treatment.  ZERONA® is an excellent option for patients who do not want to experience the downtime, health risks or pain associated with more invasive procedures for body countouring.”

Clinical studies demonstrated that the ZERONA® low-level laser targets adipose tissue (fat storing cells) and stimulates the fat cell to liquefy the fat within the cell.  The excess fat is then passed out of the body during its normal course of detoxification which results in millions of fat cells becoming smaller and inches are reduced.

For more information on the ZERONA® treatments or to book a free consultation at C/V ENT Surgical Group, visit www.zerona.com or call (818)888-7878.

THYROID CANCER AWARENESS

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Thyroid Cancer Awareness is an important cause as I have dedicated my career to the surgical treatment of patients with thyroid cancer. The American Cancer Society reports that in 2009 there will be 37,200 new cases of thyroid cancer (27,200 in women, and 10,000 in men) with an estimated 1,630 deaths. That’s up from 33,550 in 2007, making it a 10% increase in just 2 years. Thyroid cancer is, however, considered one of the least deadly and most survivable cancers, and 5-year survival rates for most thyroid cancers is around 97%. The reason for this excellent rate of survival is primarily due to having thyroid surgery by expert thyroid surgeons including myself.

Thyroid cancer is one of the few cancers on the rise in recent years, with a growth rate of about 6% a year since 1997. Most experts and I believe that this increase is primarily due to a greater use of advanced imaging techniques such as CT, MRI and ultrasound, which often will identify asymptomatic thyroid nodules earlier which after further workup are deemed to be cancerous and treated accordingly.

As such September is designated as Thyroid Cancer Awareness month and to commemorate the month I will lead various discussions and community programs to educate the public throughout the month. I also recommend patients to consider an annual self exam or “thyroid check” by standing in front of the mirror and feeling for any lumps or bumps along the central lower neck that present with swallowing. If anything abnormal is felt, then you should consult your doctor for a full and complete examination.
